Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pathology specimen transport bag?

A pathology specimen transport bag is a reusable carrier used to move diagnostic samples and patient specimens between clinical and laboratory locations. SecureLab CHILL combines rigid protective walls with insulation for secure, temperature-controlled transport.

Is SecureLab CHILL suitable for UN3373 specimens?

SecureLab CHILL is designed for use as the insulated outer carrier within a UN3373/P650 triple-packaging system for Biological Substance, Category B specimens. Suitable primary receptacles, secondary packaging, absorbent material and cushioning must also be used where required.

Is the insulated carrier itself 95kPa compliant?

The 95kPa requirement applies to either the primary receptacle or secondary packaging used for liquid specimens, rather than the insulated outer carrier. Universeal supplies separate 95kPa specimen bags for use as secondary packaging.

How long will the carrier maintain 2–8°C?

Testing has demonstrated 2–8°C performance for more than 16 hours under defined conditions, when used with suitable coolant such as ice or gel packs. Actual performance depends on the cooling packout, payload, starting temperatures, ambient conditions and frequency of opening.

Which carrier sizes are available?

Medium 18 litre and large 35 litre pathology carriers are held in stock. A smaller 6 litre carrier is also available on request (subject to larger minimum order quantities).

Can the carrier be secured with a tamper-evident seal?

Yes. The two zip pullers can be secured together using a suitably sized numbered tamper-evident seal, such as padlock seals. This provides visible evidence of opening and allows the seal number to be recorded for traceability during specimen transfers. The locking mechanism is not proprietary and any suitable security seal can provide an effective tamper-evident closure.
